Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise

How did they meet? According to US Weekly, Tom called her up out of the blue and asked her out on a date.
Cruise proposed to Holmes in the early morning of June 17 while on top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and she accepted. At a later press conference, also attended by Holmes's mother, Cruise announced the news, declaring, "Today is a magnificent day for me. I'm engaged to a magnificent woman." The engagement ring was a five carat oval diamond set in rose gold and platinum in a vintage, art deco design with a split shank (for those that care about those sorta things!)

The couples first child, Suri Cruise, was born precisely one year after the couples first date. The daughter was one of many high profile celebrity children born in 2006 that created media frenzy over being the first publication with a photograph published. The name Suri has both Hebrew and Persian origins. In Hebrew, it means 'princess' and in Persian, 'red rose,' it was claimed in the couples press release.
On November 18, 2006, Holmes and Cruise were married at the 15th-century Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, Italy, in a Scientology ceremony attended by many Hollywood stars. Italian authorities said the ceremony was not legal since no paperwork had been filed. The mayor of Bracciano, Patrizia Riccioni, told British media that "No civil ceremony has taken place and no paperwork has been received. The wedding is not legally-binding."
The actors' publicist said the couple had "officialized" their marriage in Los Angeles the day before the Italian ceremony. The day after the ceremony, the couple left for a honeymoon in the Maldives.
